Design Project B research/ideas.(one)

ONE
My cousin has 3 children and she doesn't have 1 album of her kids she has over (10,000) image.
i quote "i just don't have time to go and develop them, this makes me sad and i guess i lost half of the images of Haya (first child) "

TWO
me - " mom  do you have an album of Hamad (my small brother he is now 13 years old) and shaikha ( my smallest sister she's now 10 years old)"
mom - " I just have those pictures hanging in the living room"
me - " seriously, thats it? they were 2 years old what about their first walk when they were three four five years old?"
mom - "I can't remember i know i took a lot of photos but i can't remember. Nimsha stop asking me those questions."

THOSE ARE JUST SOME EXAMPLES.

My idea for my Project B is to design different kind of photography books or Albums. Why?
Because with the technology and smartphones people are losing their images, more like losing their memories. They are buying a new phone each year, or their phone get stolen or broken. In any case in this present world we live in people don't treasure memories anymore. For example All my friends and family members have smart phone with cameras on them no one of the back up their images to their computer. 95% of those people i know lose their images.

So i came up with this idea i can save them from losing their images and create photo Albums or books in different kind of sizes ,and different layouts. I can also write down captions of when those images were taken and who are the people in the image .

I also can create personal diaries and journals.

While i was searching online on this topic I found out that i have a competitor with the same kind of idea so I asked myself how can i be different?

  1. I will upload the pics myself. Because in my country people really care about the privacy of their photos.
  2. I can burn their videos on a cd and attach it to the book.
  3. I will use my design skills to print the book.

So for this project i thought i can create three kind of books
  • From A social media (Instagram)
  • old photos that i had for ages and that i have not seen for years
  • a personal journal
Blow are some photos of my Instagram account:

Product packaging (task 6)

What is Package design?
  • Packaging is the technology of enclosing or protecting products for distribution, storage, sale, and use.

Package design is the most important thing for any product. Without Packaging their will be no trade

What is the role of packaging?
  • The role of packaging is simply to protect the product throughout the manufacturing, transport, and storage. Good Packing means good health and safety of the consumers.

Who do you consider to be a good packaging designer?

  • Apple Packaging .. to know why watch the video below.

What is a carbon footprint?
  • The exact definition is the amount of carbon dioxide and other carbon compounds emitted due to the consumption of fossil fuels by a particular person, group, etc.

Example
Apple is focusing on its product packaging to help reduce its total carbon footprint.
In order to determine how to best reduce carbon emissions, Apple looked carefully at the areas that contribute to its total carbon footprint, including manufacturing (which accounts for 45% of Apple's total greenhouse gas emissions), transportation (5%), product use (46%), recycling (1%) and facilities (3%). Apple's packaging directly affected its transportation emissions, with heavier, bulkier packaging requiring more shipping containers and more fuel.
Apple redesigned its packaging to be smaller and lighter, while still providing maximum protection for its products. The reduced packaging helped minimize material waste, while helping to reduce transportation emissions. Between 2006 and 2010, Apple reduced packaging for the MacBook by 53%, which allowed room for 80% more MacBook boxes in each shipping load. With fewer shipments, Apple significantly reduced its C02 emissions.
The story behind Apple's environmental footprints to learn more click here
  • I use 39.96 CO2e per month find out your carbon footprints here

What is green packaging?
  •  Green packing is the improvement of sustainable packaging
  • Reduction of packaging
  • recycled materials
  • reducing environmental impact
  • reducing ecological footprints
watch the video here about green packaging.

What is traffic light labeling?
  • Traffic labeling is the colors  Red, yellow (amber) and green symbols on food products to represent high, medium and low levels of fats, sugars and salts
Example:

Global collection:

Five Olive Oil
Brand identity and packaging design for a new premium quality series of Greek extra virgin olive oil. 5 stands for quintessence in olive oil. 5 olive oil is distributed by World Excellent Products®, a company driven by passion for excellence in gastronomy. It is a newly established company, created by the ambition to build on the same core pillars of their own philosophy: innovation, respect to history and tradition and exclusive know-how on production and supply of unique products.

Origami T Bags

Designed by Nathalia Ponomareva, this packaging design adds a touch of beauty to making tea as well as combining two Japanese traditions: tea and origami. Although currently only a concept, this a strong concept and has great potential.

Headphone Packaging

These headphones created by Corrine Pant show how a small modification to packaging design can make a big difference. By using the form of a quaver to alter the packaging the consumer instantly becomes engaged. The choice of black and white aids this making the packaging very bold and striking.

 TeaPee
Canadian design student, Sophie Pépin, drew inspiration from the roots of the Native American nomadic lifestyle for this tea packaging design she calls North American Teapee. The Native American patterns that are placed around the packaging are cleverly torn away to reveal the teabags themselves.

 Lacoste Eco/Techno Polo
The concept was to explore two very different materials and the technology used in the production process of these special edition eco shirts from Lacoste. The most eco-friendly way to package the eco polo was not to print on the packaging at all but use embossing instead. The techno polo is vacuum-packaged in screen-printed foil.

Colourless Coke
COLOURLESS–an eco friendly package proposal for Coca-cola. A convex logo substitutes colourfully sprayed can. Naked can help to reduce air and water pollution occurred in its coloring process. It also reduces energy and effort to separate toxic color paint from aluminum in recycling process. Huge amount of energy and paint required to manufacture coloured cans would be saved.

Ethics & Socially Responsible Approaches (Task 5)

"Taking on the responsibility to share your skills with organizations that are working to improve society the same way that an off-duty doctor would make it their responsibility to provide medical attention to someone in trouble."

Paula Scher:

Ethics:

  • She believes failure is the secret to artistic success. "You have to fail in order to make the next discovery," says Scher. "It's through mistakes that you actually can grow."
  • " It's through mistakes that you actually can grow."
  • "You have to get bad in order to get good. "
  • she believes if she makes a break through she will be rewarded for it in the end.
  • Her cycle is this: first stage being serious(that's how she make the breakthrough), second stage being solemn(that's when the breakthrough is expected, third stage being trite (cliché)  or hackneyed (overworked), fourth stage is being forgotten and the fifth stage is  resurrected (bring back to life) again. she goes  through that entire cycle, and the failure leads to the next reinvention.
  • Always ask yourself those questions if you think you got your design wrong or you think it is not working:  why is this not working? Why is my work coming out like this? Why do I do the same thing over and over again?

I design because i love to make things and make things made.  I want the things that I make or get made to elevate the expectation of what design should be. Thats what I try hard to in every capacity. Sometimes, I even succeed in it. I can’t determine whether or not that ‘good’, I have to leave that to the critics and historians. "

"Paula Scher is a ‘social’ designer in the best sense of the word – her work is literally on the streets and in the buildings where people live, work and study."

Interview question for paula:

How has your pro bono (for the public good) work impacted your commercial work?
I look at work in totality: some work pays the bills, some work is important to us as a society, and some work builds reputation. What’s the best is when it does all three, which sometimes it does.

Do you have an example?
I donated a complete sign system for the NYC Parks Department. It was probably the biggest donation I’ve ever made. Then, because of that relationship, after Hurricane Sandy, they hired me to do a paid project designing signage for all the beaches.
The two things went together really well. If I hadn’t done that massive donation, we wouldn’t have developed a relationship and they might not have thought of me to do the paid work. So the pro bono and commercial work actually fed each other. I created two very visible pieces of work, one donated, and the other an assignment.

How do you invent something new?
To invent something, or to do something that feels creative, or where you really push what’s possible, you have to be a little bit ignorant. You have to kind of not know what you’re doing, because if you know what you’re doing, you’re gonna do what you’ve already done or what somebody else has done before. Or what’s expected of you. And that’s never really very interesting, but it’s the sort of formula for success that everybody feels comfortable with.

How do you break past that?
To invent something new, you have to be ok with not knowing what you are doing. That makes people feel vulnerable; it’s taking a total risk. The only way I’ve found that people will take that risk with me, is if they’re not paying for it. So, I use pro bono as my lab.

Paula is one of the world’s top 10 designers, and provides at least 25% of her work each year pro bono(for the public good)

What i love about Paula is that she is not afraid to fail or make mistakes, because of that i believe she is successful.  "You have to fail in order to make the next discovery," And i totally agree with that quote. My very first project in graphic design in the 2006 i failed and i thought the world has ended. I wanted to change my major because of that first project. When I talked to my professor about my grade she laughed, and she told me its ok to fail wait and do the second project and you will be amazed. I did my second project and i got an A on it. What i also love about Paula is her Pro bono work for the society. 25% of her work is for the society.

KK OUTLET

Ethics:

  • creative solutions for the development of brands, products and content.
  • stay close to our audience and the creative world by hosting exhibitions and collaborations on a monthly basis.
  • strong strategic thinking.

KK JOB CENTRE
"KK Job Centre presents a selection of the best of this year’s graduate graphic designers and illustrators from across the United Kingdom all of whom are part of the Just Us Design Collective. The exhibition is designed as a kitsch job-centre, with tongue-in-cheek references to the social and economic problems associated with the current credit-crunch recession. All of this is a reaction to the student fears of finding jobs after graduating university."

You can find more about their work and events in here

What i really like about KK outlet is they how the collaborate three things in one place. They have a place to work a small shop for book publishing and finally an exhibition each month. They also do some social work. In the previous paragraph they did this social exhibition for newly graduates to search for a job.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) - (Task 4)

What is Corporate Social Responsibility?

"Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at large"- Lord Holme and Richard Watts

another definition

"How a businesses deals with their environmental, social and economic impacts.

Types of corporate social responsibility:

Environment:
Caring for the environment.

Philanthropy:
generous donation of money to good cause.( Charity or local community programs)

Moving Images - Animation (Task3)

Moving images are series of still images when shown on a screen creates this illusion of moving images due to a phenomenon. A movie camera creates 24 frams(picture) per second which makes our eyes see those single images as moving images.  Movies or films,Tv commercials, cartoons and even logo branding can be an examples of moving images.
Moving images has changed our lives, I believe its the number one entertainment for all humans beings.  You can see moving images every single day if it is not on Tv, you'll see in the streets.
