Thou shalt not advertise… (Task 7)

What do you consider to be the role of advertising?
"The role of advertising is mainly to inform potential customers of the products in the market and convince them to make a purchase."
The rule of adverting is to make the brand noticeable and respected. For example when you see a lot of Ads for a specific brand, lets say coca cola  in the streets, newspaper, billboards and so on this brand gets stuck in your head something you crave it, or at time y it's like brainwashing your brain some how. 






  1. Mission: the objectives behind advertising. For example: sales promotion, information and guidance to consumers, developing brand loyalty, market goodwill, facing market competition effectively, making the products popular or successful and introduction of a new product.
  2. Money: Advertising should be always within the limits of funds provided.
  3. Message: The message is given through written words, pictures, slogans and etc. It should garb the attention of the buyer.
  4. Media: not evert product should be advertised in the media.
  5. Measure: to evaluate advertisement in order to judge its effectiveness.





Discuss your thoughts on the ethics of advertising.

  • I believe the ethics in advertising in my point of view is all about truth and respect. Not using false information to promote a product thats ethics.

When coming up with an ad campaign for FedEx Kinko's, the innovative minds at advertising agency BBDO were inspired by the streets of New York. The agency installed oversized bottles of correction fluid, highlighters, and, in one case, an office lamp, on the city's busy thoroughfares for a couple of days earlier this year.

This design illustrates the risk advertisers take when they overcrowd designs with too many words. With only three to five seconds to grab a driver’s attention, it is vital for outdoor lettering to be scaled to be read from a distance. Drivers who cannot read a billboard are unlikely to look again.

What are your thoughts on ambient media, guerrilla marketing and viral advertising campaigns?
Ambient advertising is about placing ads on unusual items or in unusual places you wouldn’t normally see an ad.

Example of viral advertising campaigns:
a direct marketing technique in which a company persuades internet users to forward its publicitymaterial in e-mails (usually by including jokes, games, video clips, etc)


"This marketing campaign is centered around a food blender. The campaign created a video that shows that the blender blends everything. Some of their most popular videos show blending expensive electronics like an iPhone.
Why it went viral: It capitalized on user’s interest to watch quick and funny things on YouTube. It was shocking in 2006 and it still is today. It attracted 160 million views back when the campaign was first launched."



"Although it seems like the Chatroulette fad was eons ago, it's really only been three years since the video chat site exploded in popularity. During this time, the improvising piano player known as Merton created the highest rated video on YouTube by singing to whoever popped up in his chat window.
Many viewers commented that he looked a lot like the singer/songwriter Ben Folds. In an ode to the original, Folds performed an improvised Chatroulette performance in front of a live audience at one of his shows, becoming a viral success in and of itself.
The example demonstrated that celebrities and brands could piggyback on Internet trends to achieve their own success"
